About Oliver Coffee

Tucked away at 5 Oliver St in New York’s Financial District, Oliver Coffee brings a relaxed neighborhood feel to one of the busiest parts of the city. The moment you walk past the storefront, the space gives off the kind of casual coffee shop energy that makes people slow down for a minute, whether they are heading to work, catching up with friends, or simply looking for a quiet corner with a fresh cup of coffee. The atmosphere feels welcoming without trying too hard, and that balance is part of what makes the spot stand out in Lower Manhattan. Outdoor seating adds even more character to the experience, especially on pleasant afternoons when the streets around the area feel lively yet surprisingly comfortable for sitting outside with a drink in hand.

Inside, Oliver Coffee keeps things simple in a good way. The focus stays on quality coffee and a comfortable environment rather than overwhelming guests with distractions. You can stop in for a quick caffeine break during the day or stay a little longer while enjoying the laid-back dine-in setup. Since there is no delivery service, the experience feels more personal and centered around actually being there, which gives the shop a more authentic neighborhood café vibe. The smell of freshly brewed coffee fills the space almost immediately, creating the kind of cozy atmosphere coffee lovers usually hope to find in New York City.

What also makes Oliver Coffee appealing is how naturally it fits into the rhythm of the neighborhood. Some guests swing by for a morning coffee before work, while others settle into the outdoor seating to recharge during the afternoon. The setting feels approachable, easygoing, and refreshingly uncomplicated, making it a comfortable stop for both locals and visitors exploring the city.

Tiny coffee spot with excellent magazines. Staff is friendly and the tea is good (haven’t tried the coffee yet!). The real selling point is the reading material - if you’re a fan of art magazines, this is your spot. There’s even a center table for you to read at. One of my best spots to sit and read in the area, IMO.

Delicious tiny coffee shop with plenty if options. Great location, friendly staff and good prices. Their almond croissant was super crunchy, the oat latte was perfect too.

Discovered this place quite by accident after a long morning exploring this area looking for any signs of its distant shipbuilding past with no luck. Finding this lovely little hole in the wall and the friendly baristas got me out of my funk. Had a strong little macchiato and the day's last danish (it was around 1330 or so) and peppered the ladies with questions, which they happily obliged. There is a historic church across the street and Alfred E. Smith's home is just now the street. It is amazing to look at the accompanying 1766 map. Find Oliver Street and note there is nothing along it, notice how much closer the East River was and the orchard to the NE. Oh, how it has all changed.

Great coffee, certainly the best in Chinatown (admittedly there isn't much competition). Nice little spot and friendly staff. Also heaps of trendy magazines.

Good cold brew. Nice magazines and treats to peruse while you sip, or you can order from the window. Laid back neighborhood spot.

Nice little coffee shop with a market area selling hard-to-find snacks curated by the owners. Tons of cool zines, we bought one from glug glug. The only real downside is that there is only 1 picnic table inside for 4 people to sit so that can be a challenge if you’re looking for a spot to chill out a bit, catch up with a friend, etc. Overall this place is a winner and you shouldn’t miss stopping by if you’re in the area.

Absolutely adorable little cafe. I really loved the little window which made it easy to buy coffee and continue on our way. Staff was nice and quick. Also have alternative milk which was nice!

Lovely window service and you can drink on the benches or tables in front. They also have a cozy inside space that looks like a newsstand.
